The Talent Day also marked the plaque awarding ceremony of the RISC-V International Open Source Laboratory (RIOS Laboratory). As the tenth Nobel Laureate (Turing Award) laboratory to establish in Shenzhen, the RIOS Laboratory, under the leadership of A.M. Turing Award Laureate David Patterson, will accelerate the industrialization of global RISC-V technology as it responds to development trends in the global CPU industry, meet the needs of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area enterprises, and help raise the RISC-V ecosystem to state-of-the-art. Dr. Patterson will serve as laboratory director, with TBSI providing operational support. The RIOS laboratory is currently accepting 2020 graduate applications, and will join hands with the RISC-V Foundation China Committee and RISC-V to hold the first China RISC-V Forum this month.
Apart from the RIOS laboratory, TBSI and Tsinghua SIGS have been providing operational support to the Shenzhen Geim Graphene Research Center, led by Nobel Prize Laureate Andre Geim, since its opening in 2017.
A conference on high-end talents followed after the award ceremony. Gao Hong introduced the talent development work at Tsinghua SIGS and expressed that the focus and direction of the university coincides with Shenzhen’s development as a pilot zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics, as well as the City’s goal in attracting high-quality international talent. The education at Tsinghua SIGS covers Shenzhen’s pillar and emerging industries and will nurture the next generation of leaders to fuel the developmental needs of the City and the Greater Bay Area.
