Tsinghua University and Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) have reached an agreement to launch a Dual Master's Degree Program in Resources and Environment at an online ceremony on May 29.
Hong Gao, Executive Dean of Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), and Insa Neuweiler, Dean of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science at LUH, signed the agreement on behalf of the two parties.
The new program between the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science at LUH and Tsinghua SIGS will commence in Fall 2022, with a focus on environmental matters, resource conservation and sustainability. Students who fulfill the requirements of both universities will receive a Master of Engineering in Earth Resources and Environment from Tsinghua University, and a Master of Engineering from LUH.

Bin Yang, Vice President and Provost of Tsinghua University, said that Tsinghua and LUH have maintained a close cooperative relationship over the years. This agreement, signed during Tsinghua’s 110th anniversary and Tsinghua SIGS’s 20th anniversary, is of great significance.
He hoped that the program will use the strengths of both environmental disciplines to jointly educate students, achieve mutual development, and promote friendly exchanges between China and Germany.

Christina von Haaren, Vice President for International Affairs and Sustainability of LUH, expressed delight in working with Tsinghua to advance teaching and innovation. With a history of collaboration since 2004, she hoped that new ideas will be brought to the environmental field.

Jian’e Zuo, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SIGS, further mentioned that China places great emphasis on environmental issues and that international exchange is an important step in mutual development. Stephan Köster, Managing Director of the Institute of Sanitary Engineering and Waste Management of LUH, looked forward to new and fruitful results in the environmental field through scientific collaboration and academic exchange.

LUH is a world-renowned university and a member of TU9, a consortium of Germany's leading technical universities. The dual master’s degree program is 3 years in length and aims to enroll 30 students for its first cohort.
