About Us


The Division of Information Science and Technology (DIST) was established in 2002 on the foundation of four disciplines: Information and Communication Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, and Electronic Science and Technology.



DIST aims to transform lives and industry with the latest technologies and cultivate talents with technology innovation and engineering application by concentrating on the advancement of research into fundamental theories and practical technologies in the realm of electronic information. As a significant graduate training base for Tsinghua University in electronic information, it exploits full advantage of the disciplines' competence and the Greater Bay Area's electronic information sector, contributing to world-class disciplines and economic expansion.

DIST is committed to become a first-class talent training base that accelerates the development of scientific and technological innovation, aspiring for a model of school-enterprise cooperative education.

The platform is made up of 1 national Engineering Research Center funded by the Chinese National Ministry of Education, 2 provincial engineering technology research centers, and 14 municipal key laboratories and engineering laboratories. Industry Cooperation

The division has been working with top information technology enterprises at home and abroad closely for a long term and has made many influential achievements in talent training and academic research. 8 joint training bases have been established between the division and leading enterprises, including Huawei, Tencent, Ping An Technology, SenseTime, Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Center Co., Ltd. etc. Additionally, the program of Interactive Media Design and Technology (IMDT) was jointly established with Tencent to carry out professional master education.

  • Information & Communication Engineering (ICE), Electronic Science & Technology (EST)

    Information and Communication Engineering (ICE), Electronic Science and Technology (EST), the two first level disciplines, closely combine the innovation and development needs of the Greater Bay Area and the national electronic information industry, and carry out research on cutting-edge scientific theories and novel high-tech applications. ICE has the research thrusts of wireless communication, signal processing, image processing, computer vision, information security, big data analytics and etc. EST has the research thrusts of artificial intelligent chips, smart hardware, dedicated integrated circuit (including analog, radio frequency, digital, and mixed-signal ICs) and as well as the intersected and integrated applications in the Internet of Things, smart cities, unmanned driving systems, intelligent robots, smart medicine, human motion analysis, 3D film and television production and other fields. The doctoral programs in these two first level disciplines fulfill the concept of theory plus practice plus innovation in teaching, learning, research and implementation, and aim to cultivate high-level outstanding talents and global scientific and technological leaders equipped with solid foundation, practical emphasis, and pioneering spirits.

  • Control Science and Engineering

    It has been working on the basic theory research and application of intelligent systems, data mining, pattern recognition, machine learning, stereoscopic video computing, computational photography, natural language processing, intelligent robots, industrial intelligent systems and space robots. Students are expected to become professionals who can conduct scientific theory research and address the pressing problems of engineering technology independently in interdisciplinary field, with the mission of driving technological innovation and industrial transformation. With the motto of “Self-discipline and Social Commitment” and the spirit of “Actions Speak Louder Than Words”, the program is committed to the sustainable development of Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area, and beyond.

  • Computer Science and Technology

    As an extension of Computer Science department at Tsinghua University, the aim of discipline is to cultivate students through Master and Ph.D. program of Computer Science & Technology. The Ph.D. program in Shenzhen of Computer Science and Technology has been recruiting students since 2013, with a focus on areas such as Architecture of Advanced Computer Network, Coding Theory for Computer Network, Data and Knowledge Engineering, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Multimedia Technology, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, Human Computer Interaction and Pervasive Computing, and Multimedia Information Processing and Network Multimedia.

  • Artificial Intelligence

    Master of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence (M.E.AI) is an interdisciplinary program, founded in 2019, as a successor to the M.E. in Control Engineering program. M.E.AI provides students with sufficient industry resources from leading enterprises in AI and interdisciplinary resources of information technology, takes artificial intelligence basic theories, core algorithms, software, and hardware as the cornerstone, and builds an AI+X comprehensive talent cultivation model to achieve in-depth integration between industry and education. M.E.AI focuses on creating a vibrant environment that accelerates breakthrough research across scientific and technological frontiers and a collaborative atmosphere that serves the strategic planning and industrial needs of national artificial intelligence development.

  • Big Data Engineering

    The full-time ME program in Big Data Engineering at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduates School (Tsinghua SIGS) aims to equip students with solid theoretical foundation and in-depth professional knowledge in collecting, storing, calculating, managing, analyzing and applying data, and also with strong industry application capability, professional quality and international competitiveness. After completion of the program, students are expected to play leading roles as intelligent analysts, strategic decision makers or data scientists in research institutes, governments and enterprises in big data-related industries including Internet, Artificial Intelligence, Finance, Telecommunication, Healthcare, Transportation and Logistics, and with potential to conduct high-level scientific research.

  • Computer Technology

    Extended from existing uniqueness of the Department of Computer Science at Tsinghua University, the master’s program of Computer Technology has been recruiting students since 2009, with a focus on internet technology, media computing, network security, intelligent computing, artificial intelligence, etc. Great importance is attached to the innovation of basic computer theory and the industrial application of cutting-edge computer technology. Practical skills, moral cultivation and experimental practice teaching in curriculum design are highlighted to improve overall competence of the students and enable them to make a great contribution to the national scientific and technological innovation.

  • Electronics and Communication Engineering

    Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) combines the innovation and development needs of the Greater Bay Area and national electronic information industry to conduct research on cutting-edge theories and high-tech applications. The research thrusts include electronic devices, circuit and systems, communication and networks, signal and information processing, information security, big data analytics and cross-disciplinary thrusts with electrical engineering, medicine, precise instrument and materials as well as the integrated application in IoTs, smart cities, unmanned driving systems, intelligent robots, smart medicine, human motion analysis, VR, NGN and etc. This program integrates theory, practice, and innovation in teaching, research and implementation, and aims to cultivate high-level outstanding talents and engineering leaders.

  • Integrated Circuits and Systems

    The Integrated Circuits and Systems Program focuses on teaching and research activities in high-tech industries such as 5G communications, biomedical, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Building upon the solid foundation of Tsinghua University and industries in the Greater Bay Area, the program works closely with industry, provides an integrated and multidisciplinary education, and aims to nurture great integrated circuit industry leaders.

  • Interactive Media Design and Technology

    In May 2019, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School and Tencent, focusing on the direction of interactive media design and technology, jointly established the Interactive Media Design and Technology Center (IMDT) to carry out professional master education. We establish a professional curriculum system, jointly carry out cutting-edge technology and social application research, and jointly explore a new model of enterprise-university-government cooperation and a new paradigm of professional degree education. In April 2020, IMDT reached a cooperation with USC Games, School of Cinematic Arts of the University of Southern California.

The winter break of THU will be from Jan 9,2023 to Feb 12,2023. The application system will still be available during the winter break, but online verification might be delayed due to the vacation. Applicants are therefore recommended to complete their application at least two or three weeks in advance.



At present, Tsinghua University mainly provides the following scholarships for outstanding prospective full-time international graduate students.

  • Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS): The Full CGS usually covers tuition, stipend, on-campus accommodation (or accommodation subsidy), and medical insurance. The Partial CGS includes one or a few items in the Full CGS. Annual Review is strictly required for all CGS holders.

  • Tuition Scholarship: For example, the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students, covers full or partial tuition fee with a duration of one academic year. Applicants may apply for Tuition Scholarships annually (competitive).

  • Assistantship: SIGS also offers different assistantship for outstanding students: teaching assistant and research assistant.
