The 4th Tsinghua Hong Kong-Macao Symposium took place at the China Taiping Finance Centre in Hong Kong on the afternoon of December 9. The event focused on the theme “Strengthening open cooperation, boosting Hong Kong's global competitive advantage.”
Experts and scholars from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao, as well as university leaders and corporate representatives from Hong Kong and Macao with rich experience in Hong Kong's technological innovation, economic development, and higher education, attended the symposium as keynote speakers.
The symposium was hosted by Tsinghua University and co-organized by the university’s Center for Hong Kong and Macau Studies, Tsinghua SIGS, and Bauhinia Magazine, in cooperation with Tsinghua alumni associations of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Macao, and Guangzhou as well as China Taiping.

Wang Hongwei, vice president of Tsinghua University, Zhang Jun, deputy director of the Research Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong, and Zhao Ju, chief investment officer at China Merchants Bank, CEO of CMB International, and president of the Tsinghua Alumni Association of Hong Kong, delivered opening remarks.

After the remarks, three dialogues were held on the following topics, respectively: “Strengthening regional coordination, supporting the construction of Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology center,” “Enhancing market confidence, consolidating Hong Kong’s status as an international financial center,” and “Leveraging complementary advantages in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, enhancing the competitiveness of higher education in Hong Kong.”

The Tsinghua Hong Kong-Macao Symposium is a signature academic event organized by SIGS and the Center for Hong Kong and Macau Studies. Held annually since 2020, the symposium aims to provide a platform that stimulates academic exchange and promotes the collision of ideas on Hong Kong and Macao studies and discussion of related policies and development.
