Participants explored laboratories across campus, including the Testing Technology Center of Materials and Devices where advanced devices were demonstrated, and the Tsinghua-Tencent Interactive Media Design and Technology Center showcasing real-time motion capture systems used in film production. Students also experienced a number of scientific experiments in laboratories related to medical diagnosis, environmental ecology, architecture, and interdisciplinary innovation.
Highlights in labs
A Map Stamp Rally incentivized exploration, with participants collecting stamps at each lab to redeem commemorative souvenirs, adding fun and helping children experience the power of technological innovation.
Li Huiran, a Grade 7 student from Yucai Experimental School, said, Attending the science popularization event today, I saw advanced humanoid robots and learned about the rapid development of relevant scientific and technological fields in China, which has planted a seed of aspiration for technology in my heart. I look forward to studying cutting-edge technologies at Tsinghua in the future.
Li Jia, an Information Technology course teacher from Shenzhen Nanshan Arts and Sciences Experimental School, noted that the event broadened students’ horizons and allowed them to be exposed to university scientific knowledge in advance, which is crucial for their future academic study.
Ms. Huang, a parent from Shenzhen Yantian Senior High School, expressed sincere gratitude for Tsinghua SIGS’ thoughtful arrangement. She said, The knowledge my child acquired here is unavailable in regular courses. I was deeply impressed.
In addition to actively participating in major events like the National Science and Technology Week, National Science Popularization Day, and Shenzhen Science Popularization Month, Tsinghua SIGS also utilizes its campus, equipment, and talent resources to provide science popularization services to the public as part of its commitment to social responsibility. For several consecutive years, it has been recognized as the Guangdong Provincial Science Education Base, Shenzhen Science Popularization Education Base, and Nanshan District Science Popularization Education Base.
To date, Tsinghua SIGS has organized 135 science popularization events, serving over 12,000 people, and developed 20 signature courses. Furthermore, the school has established a science popularization volunteer team comprising hundreds of full-time faculty members, staff, engineers, and master’s and doctoral students. The events have consistently received high satisfaction ratings, generating positive social impacts and contributing to enhancing public scientific literacy, as well as thinking and spirit.
