Seminar on Healthcare Service Management for Belt and Road Countries Kicks off at Tsinghua SIGS

The  Seminar on Healthcare Service Management for the Belt and Road Countries, organized by the Ministry of Commerce and hosted by Tsinghua University, officially commenced on September 15 at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS). The two-week program brings together government officials and healthcare administrators from multiple Belt and Road countries for learning and exchange on key topics like health governance and medical service system development.


The program aims to share China's experiences in healthcare management and support partner countries in exploring their own pathways. It represents a practical step in South-South cooperation and building a global community of health for all.


Officials from the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) of the Ministry of Commerce, the Shenzhen Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, and Tsinghua University, including its Shenzhen campus and Hospital Management Institute, attended the opening ceremony.


In his video speech, Xu Kai, Vice President of AIBO, emphasized China's commitment to deepening practical cooperation. He stated that the program offers a valuable opportunity to share insights and strengthen collaboration in public health and other vital areas.


Sun Huaizhong, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, highlighted Shenzhen's role as a hub of innovation and its active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative. He expressed Shenzhen's willingness to deepen healthcare cooperation with partner nations.


Wong Tien Yin, Vice Provost of Tsinghua University and Senior Vice-Chancellor of Tsinghua Medicine, noted that the program focuses on shared challenges like aging populations and chronic disease prevention. He hopes participants will learn from China's Healthy China 2030 strategy and Shenzhen's medical innovations.

Zuo Jian’e, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SIGS, outlined the institute's commitment to international exchange. He expects the program to foster mutual learning and build a high-level platform for practical cooperation in healthcare management among partner countries.


Clavere Nken Tsana, a participant representative from Cameroon expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn advanced management practices and enhance the effectiveness of their national health system.


Zhang Zongjiu,Executive Associate Dean of Institute for Hospital Management of Tsinghua University, outlined the program's structure, emphasizing its role as a key part of China's foreign aid training.


The 14-day curriculum covers China's practices in areas including tiered medical care systems and smart hospitals. It includes traditional Chinese medicine and advanced technologies such as AI in healthcare and precision medicine, aiming to enhance participants' management capabilities and build a lasting cooperation network for sustainable health system development.


In the future, Tsinghua SIGS and its Institute for Hospital Management will continue to support international health cooperation, contributing to achieving the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
