Thailand Visit Reaches Consensus on Cooperation

A delegation from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), led by Assistant Dean Wu Qianyuan, visited Thailand from Jan. 5 to 8 to strengthen high-level educational cooperation.


The visit is part of the school's ongoing efforts to support the Belt and Road Initiative, advance the opening-up of high-level education, and contribute to the building of a China–Thailand community with a shared future.


During the four-day visit, the delegation engaged with Thai government departments, top universities, the Charoen Pokphand Group, and the Chinese Embassy in Thailand. Discussions focused on international student recruitment and joint talent cultivation, with consensus reached on future cooperation.   


On Jan. 5 The delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and met with Xu Lan, the education counselor at the Embassy. Xu expressed her strong support for expanding scientific and educational cooperation between Tsinghua SIGS and top Thai institutions, as well as for facilitating exchanges for outstanding Thai students to pursue studies at Tsinghua SIGS.

On the same day, the delegation met with Professor Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul,

Permanent Secretary of Thailand's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. Professor Pathumnakul noted that Thailand regards artificial intelligence (AI) as a key driver of development and is promoting its application in areas such as smart agriculture and food science. He expressed willingness to collaborate with Tsinghua SIGS on AI training programs for faculty members. The Ministry also pledged support for Tsinghua SIGS to engage with leading Thai universities and enterprises in joint talent cultivation, collaborative research, and the establishment of regional education centers.

On the morning of Jan. 6, the delegation visited Thailand's Office of the Civil Service Commission, where the two sides reached preliminary consensus on course design, professional practice arrangements, and scholarship cooperation models.

That afternoon, the delegation visited Srinakharinwirot University, where discussions were held on cooperation initiatives, including the joint organization of the international week, academic seminars, and student exchange programs. 


On Jan. 7, the delegation continued its visit to Chulalongkorn University, Thailand’s oldest university. Both sides delivered an introduction and reached preliminary cooperation intentions in areas such as interdisciplinary integration, academic collaboration, talent exchange, and the joint establishment of a design workshop. Wu welcomed Chulalongkorn University to visit Tsinghua SIGS in February and expressed hopes for further deepening bilateral cooperation.


On the afternoon of Jan. 7, the delegation visited the Asian Institute of Technology and held a lecture and a recruitment presentation for students, who responded with strong interest and active engagement.


During the visit to Mahidol University International College and its Faculty of Environmental and Resource Studies on Jan. 8, preliminary consensus was reached on jointly establishing an academic exchange platform and co-hosting international conferences.

The delegation also visited the Charoen Pokphand Group, a Thailand-based multinational conglomerate with diversified businesses. Both sides agreed to leverage the group's global network of over 100 laboratories to facilitate student internships and practical training. Additionally, the delegation exchanged with alumni of Tsinghua University.

Tsinghua SIGS will take this visit as an opportunity to advance cooperation with Thai partners and to cultivate more high-caliber graduates with a global perspective and strong innovation capabilities.
