Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS) recently received thank-you letters from the organizers of the International Digital Economy Governance and Leadership Capacity Building Programme for the contributions of four students who supported the project in Beijing from January 27 to February 4.
The thank-you letters include one jointly issued by the Global SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and Leadership Development Center (UNITAR SDGs Singapore Center) under the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, together with the Global Digital Economy Cities Alliance (DEC40), and another from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology.
The thank-you letter noted that four students — PhD candidate He Jiaze and master’s students Tian Yi, Xu Guoshuai, and Liu Yiming — participated in the entire process with full dedication, demonstrating strong professionalism.
It also commended their strong sense of responsibility and excellent professional competence, which helped ensure the successful delivery of the project.
The International Digital Economy Governance and Leadership Capacity Building Programme brought together 34 senior officials and industry representatives from 17 countries including Sri Lanka, Georgia, and South Africa.

The four students’ main responsibilities include early-stage academic handbook compilation, conference material preparation, on-site event coordination, and post-event organization of academic outcomes.
He Jiaze, who is pursuing a PhD in civil engineering, worked as the leader of a 10-member teaching assistant team. He said this experience greatly strengthened his ability to coordinate people, manage complicated situations, and communicate in a structured way.
Tian Yi, a master’s student in logistics engineering and management, gained valuable insights into how different countries are advancing AI while serving as a teaching assistant during the program.

“Some have advanced experience in data governance and AI applications, while others are still in the exploratory stage and facing practical challenges,” she said, adding that the experience helped clarify her career path and encouraged her to remain open-minded and continue learning in an international context.

For the four students, this experience not only provided a valuable opportunity to enhance their practical skills but also deepened their understanding of cross-cultural communication and friendship.
Xu Guoshuai, a master’s student in precision medicine and healthcare, noted that while this was not her first time participating in an international program, it was her first time working with senior officials.

“It was undeniably a new kind of challenge. However, we rose to it, and I came to realize that the value of international exchange lies not only in the sharing of perspectives, but also in how shared experiences can foster genuine understanding and goodwill between people from different nations. Tsinghua SIGS offered us the opportunity to step onto the international stage and make our voices heard as Chinese youth and as Tsinghua youth,” said Xu.
Xu Yiming, a master’s student majoring in big data technology and engineering, also discovered the importance of maintaining an open mindset and finding common ground in shared values in cross-cultural communication. “This mindset quickly transformed my initial apprehension about working with senior officials into confidence,” said Xu.
Tsinghua SIGS is committed to cultivating high-level talent with global competence. During winter and summer breaks, Tsinghua SIGS offers students diverse opportunities for social engagement at home and abroad to help them apply their skills and contribute to society.
