From June 16 to 19, the 15th IEEE Image, Video, and Multidimensional Signal Processing Workshop (IEEE IVMSP 2026) was held at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS). Under the theme "Image and Video for Multimodality AI", the workshop brought together researchers and experts from around the world to share the latest advances, emerging technologies, and applications in intelligent visual signal processing.

The opening ceremony featured remarks from the workshop's General Co-Chairs, including Xiao-Ping Zhang, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and IEEE, Pengrui Chair Professor at Tsinghua University, and Ercan Engin Kuruoğlu, Professor at Tsinghua SIGS, Fellow of Science Academy of Turkey and IEEE. They noted that as artificial intelligence continues to evolve, image and video are becoming fundamental components of multimodal AI systems and embodied intelligence. They also emphasized the role of IEEE IVMSP as an international platform for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among academia and industry.

The four-day workshop featured a diverse program comprising three keynote speeches, two panel discussions, four tutorials, oral presentation sessions, and poster sessions. Topics covered multimodal AI, intelligent visual signal processing, generative AI, embodied intelligence, perceptual quality assessment, and intelligent video coding. The workshop also organized an industry session, an industry panel, and technical visits showcasing the latest developments in image, video, and multidimensional signal processing.

The keynote speakers includedDr. Zhengyou Zhang, Chief Scientist at Tencent and Director of Tencent Robotics X; Prof. Wen Gao, Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of Peng Cheng Laboratory, and Professor at Peking University; and Prof. Zhou Wang, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and Professor at the University of Waterloo. Their presentations examined embodied AI, next-generation intelligent video coding, and perceptual quality assessment in the AI era, highlighting how intelligent visual technologies are advancing from perception, understanding, and compression toward content generation, interaction, and embodied applications.


Panel discussion sessions at IEEE IVMSP 2026
Two panel discussions brought together experts from leading universities, research institutes, and companies including Microsoft Research Asia, Malong Technologies, JD.com, and Jiangxing Intelligence. Participants exchanged insights on emerging research directions, industrial innovation, and the future development of multimodal AI and generative visual technologies.
The workshop also offered a series of tutorials covering digital human animation, perceptual visual signal processing, neural spatial computing, and generative image processing, providing young researchers with valuable introductions to fundamental theories, key methodologies, and evaluation frameworks in these rapidly developing fields.
Adding an artistic dimension to the technical program, a multimedia concert by Dr. Leonello Tarabella, a multimedia artist and researcher at the Italian National Research Council in Pisa, showcased the integration of art and technology through sound, visuals, and interactive media.




Oral presentations, poster sessions, tutorial sessions and multimedia concert at IEEE IVMSP 2026 During the workshop, participants visited Tencent and the International Science and Technology Innovation Center, where they learned about recent progress in embodied intelligence, AI platform development, and technology commercialization, further promoting exchanges between academic research and industrial practice.




Award ceremony for outstanding papers at IEEE IVMSP 2026
At the closing ceremony, outstanding papers and presentations were recognized with awards. Reflecting the rapid evolution of AI from digital environments to the physical world, IEEE IVMSP 2026 highlighted the expanding frontiers of image, video, and multidimensional signal processing, demonstrating the integrated development of fundamental theories, core algorithms, technical standards, and industrial applications.

Organized by the IEEE Signal Processing Society, IEEE IVMSP 2026 was co-hosted by Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School and Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo. The workshop provided a high-level international platform for researchers and industry leaders to exchange ideas, share innovations, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration in multimodal AI and intelligent visual signal processing.
