A little rain today didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of new international students as they registered on campus to embark on their journeys at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS).
Tsinghua SIGS welcomed international students from around 60 countries and regions among its approximately 2,000 new students this fall.
From collecting student cards to accessing other campus services, SIGS prepared newcomers with everything they needed for a smooth transition to their new environment.
For Bruna Campos, who spent over 30 hours traveling from her home country of Brazil to arrive in Shenzhen, all the exhaustion disappeared when she arrived on campus.
“The campus is so green, and everyone I met here was so friendly. I am completely in love,” said Campos.

Speaking about her reasons for choosing Tsinghua SIGS, she valued Tsinghua University’s ranking in Asia and Shenzhen’s innovation and creativity. “There are a lot of opportunities just by being here. So if we work hard, I think we can build this place greater,” Campos added.
Like Campos, this is also the first time Honoka Enuma has studied abroad.
Hailing from Japan, Enuma, who majors in Environmental Engineering, chose Tsinghua SIGS for its international environment. “It is an international school, so I wanted to know what students with different backgrounds discuss and what they think about the world. I also found my supervisor, who combines a lot of fields such as computer science, organisms, and the environment, so I think I will find many kinds of innovative ideas here,” she said.
She also said that the open-minded and friendly people here helped her feel comfortable.
For Lahlou Ilyas from Morocco, who majors in AI Engineering, and Russian student Matvei Prikhozhdenko, who majors in Data Science and Information, studying at Tsinghua SIGS is not a completely new experience, as they both completed their bachelor’s programs in Xi’an, China.

Asked about their reasons for pursuing further studies in China, Lahlou said he wanted to do as many internships as he could at big companies in Shenzhen such as Huawei and DJI.
Prikhozhdenko said he likes China and its culture, in addition to the great education system at Tsinghua.
