"Qing Yan 1" research vessel assists in National Underwater Robot Competition

On May 21, the 4th China Underwater Robot Professional Contest successfully concluded in Zhanjiang. Tsinghua SIGS actively participated in the organization of the three-day competition and dispatched the "Qing Yan 1” research vessel to assist in the event.

Hosted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Zhanjiang Municipal Government, and Peng Cheng Laboratory, the event consisted of both online and offline competitions. The event set up tasks for robots to complete including a line-following task and an underwater picking contest.

Secretary of the CPC Zhanjiang Municipal Committee Zheng Renhao and Director of Peng Cheng Laboratory Gao Wen attended the award ceremony and presented prizes to winners of the autonomous autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) and remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) groups. After the ceremony, both went on the "Qing Yan 1" research vessel, and was given a report on the construction progress of the AUV collaborative platform project. The platform is being developed by Peng Cheng Laboratory with the support of Tsinghua SIGS, and successfully underwent its first sea trial in November 2019.

In those three days, "Qing Yan 1” also carried out frequency scanning to assess electromagnetic environment for potential construction sites of close-to-shore sea trial bases, investigated noises when taking wind-wave measurements, and operations of unmanned sailing vessels at the Zhangjian Bay with the AUV collaborative platform and the stereo communication network research team.

“Qing Yan 1” has played a core supporting role in the above sea trial process, and will continue to serve as a platform for testing and developing new marine engineering technologies in the future.
