About the Program
The full-time ME program in Big Data Engineering at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduates School (Tsinghua SIGS) aims to equip students with solid theoretical foundation and in-depth professional knowledge in the acquisition, storage, computing, management, analysis and application of big data, and also with strong industrial application ability, professional quality and international competitiveness. Graduates are expected to play leading roles as intelligent analysts, strategic decision makers or data scientists in research institutes, government agencies and enterprises in industries including Internet, Artificial Intelligence, Finance, Telecommunication, Healthcare, Transportation and Logistics, and to carry out high-level scientific research work.
Launched in 2014, program students are based in Shenzhen and supervised by full-time faculties in Shenzhen. The program has a complete curriculum system and multidimensional talent training model, and established stable cooperative relations with world-renowned universities, offering international visiting, exchanging and co-education opportunities for students. In 2019, the program has won the first prize in Tsinghua University Teaching Achievement Award. Most graduates launched their careers in leading companies in Internet, Artificial Intelligence, Telecom Information and Finance, while some opt for further studies in world-class universities. The program has developed high quality core curriculum system, among which several courses have been put online on well-known MOOC platforms at home and abroad, generating a wide range of social influence. The program has also established university-enterprise co-education center with Huawei and Shenzhen Urban Transportation Planning Center, offering strong support for students’ professional practice.
Students have published high quality academic papers in NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML,ICDE,IJCAI,AAAI,ACL and other top conferences, as well as in authoritative journals such as IEEE TPAMI,IEEE TIP,TNNLS. They have won honors such as Conference Best Paper, National Scholarship, Outstanding Degree Thesis of Tsinghua University, and also achieved great success in national and international data mining competitions.
Guided by the core values “academic leading, industry driven, global vision and multi-competence”, our graduates are expected to master key mathematic tools and computing skills, thoroughly understand principles and ideas of the core algorithm in data science, be familiar with mainstream programming languages as well as the developing and using of big data platforms, possess good data thinking ability and sensitive to industrial needs. They are able to conduct effective data acquisition, storage, analysis and displaying work in various real scenarios, and undertake analyzing work in Internet, Artificial Intelligence, Finance, Telecommunication, Healthcare, Transportation and Logistics and other industries. Equipped with complete scientific research training, they will know about cutting-edge academic problems and research methods, and are potential to conduct high-level scientific research. The program also emphasizes internationalization and industrial co-education, offering international visiting and exchanging opportunities as well as internship opportunities in top companies for students to broaden their horizons and enhance comprehensive abilities.
The program integrates disciplines including automation, computer science，electronic information, logistics and biomedical sciences to ensure strong faculty support and scientific research resources. Our faculty team have won National Technological Invention Award, National Science and Technology Progress Award, Natural Science Award of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Award of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen Science and Technology Progress Award and other national or provincial scientific research awards. Most faculty members worked or studied overseas, and are experienced in hosting national scientific research projects, creating good conditions for program to train students’ scientific research ability.
