The winning team, led by biomedical engineering student Wang Jing and material engineering student Mao Minghui, developed a Mueller polarizing biomicroscope for early screening of cancer. The early diagnosis system uses the Mueller microscope to collect polarization information of pathological slices, then processes data using artificial intelligence and big data analytic methods, enabling quantitative diagnosis and quick detection of early stages of cancer. When coupled with endoscopy, it can be used to achieve non-invasive in-vivo testing, and also has functions that allow virtual staining on target samples as well as online healthcare services.
