SIGS and University of Birmingham hold Health Engineering Forum

A forum on biopharmaceutical and health engineering was held by Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS) and the University of Birmingham on November 20. 


Jon Frampton, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, Gao Hong, Executive Dean of SIGS, Ma Lan, Associate Dean of SIGS, and more than 110 faculty and students from both schools joined the forum. The event was jointly proposed and organized by Xing Xin-Hui, Associate Dean of the Institute of Biopharmaceutical and Health Engineering (iBHE), and Academician Zhang Zhibing, Deputy Director of the China Institute at the University of Birmingham.

Gao Hong first expressed her warm welcome and appreciation to faculty and students for participating. Jon Frampton then introduced the University of Birmingham’s history and global engagements, including its cooperation with Chinese universities and stressed on the need for global cooperation.

More than ten experts and scholars from both schools gave reports on their research. Topics covered biotechnology applications in the field of innovative health engineering, translational medicine research, application and promotion of health technology in the health and medicine industry, latest developments in biomedical optical imaging and sensing, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, cell therapy technology applications and others. Participants actively participated in discussions that followed.

In the final discussion session co-hosted by Ma Lan and Jon Frampton, scholars from both universities engaged freely in discussion. Xing Xin-Hui said that iBHE will make full use of Shenzhen's rapid high-tech development and advantages of Tsinghua SIGS to promote international development of the discipline. The institute will continue to strengthen exchanges with the University of Birmingham and other world-class universities, and deepen cooperation in scientific research and personnel training, he said.


Frampton expressed intention for further cooperation in the future, and suggested forming a team to strengthen exchanges in research, joint projects, technology transfer, and joint education of graduate students.


The seminar laid a solid foundation for the two parties to carry out deeper exchange and cooperation in the future.
