Master of Fine Arts students win at 2021 China Graduate Fashion Week

The 2021 China Graduate Fashion Week, with the theme of “Smart Change,” successfully concluded at Beijing on May 20. Student works from 77 institutions at home and abroad were showcased at the event. Tsinghua SIGS Master of Fine Arts students Li Chunhui and Ma Yanqing won the 26th China Fashion Young Talent Award and the China Graduate Fashion Week Best Fabric Application Award, respectively.

Li Chunhui’s series, titled Introversion Realm, relies on the optical illusion effect of costumes to create a serene secret inner realm for people suffering from social phobia or experience great pressure from life and social interaction. Through laser cutting, digital printing, and other techniques, these imaginative designs allow people to express a more authentic self and enhance the diversity and possibility of mutual communication.

Ma Yanqing's award-winning “Cocoon” series, inspired by how insects emerge from their cocoons, interprets the power of growth in the post-pandemic era. The series uses a combination of needle and shuttle techniques and quilting methods, as well as black, white, and gray colors to create an effect of visual illusion.
