As this year’s cohort of new Master’s and PhD students arrive on campus, let’s get to know them by the numbers!
This semester, we will welcome a total of 1742 students, including 1485 Master’s students and 257 PhD students.
In this year’s incoming class, the overall male to female ratio is 2.07:1. The ratio is 1.96:1 and 2.89:1 for Master’s students and PhD students, respectively.
Our new students come from all over China with most students coming from Shandong, Henan, Hunan, and Guangdong provinces.
This year we will welcome new students from thirteen different countries with the most coming from Canada, the USA, Malaysia, and Korea.
Most of our students fall within the age 21-25 age range. Seven are under the age of 21. The youngest student is 19 years old. Five students are older than 50 years old.
The ten most popular majors for incoming Master’s students are Electronic Information, Materials and Chemical Engineering, Finance, Earth Resources and Environment, Data Science & Information Technology, Public Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Energy and Power Engineering, Precision Medicine & Healthcare, and Logistics Engineering and Management.
The ten most popular majors for incoming PhD students are Data Science & Information Technology, Environmental Science and Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Environmental Science and New Energy Technology, Electronic Information, Computer Science and Technology, Precision Medicine and Healthcare, Materials and Chemical Engineering, Earth Resources and Environment, and Civil Engineering.
The most popular birthdays for this year’s cohort are June 20, 2000, and September 29, 2000, with seven students celebrating their birthday on each day.
The most common last name among incoming students is Li (李).
