The first “Shenzhen-Munich Talk” was held online on the afternoon of October 25. The event was organized by Tsinghua i-Space, TUM ForTE (Technical University of Munich Office for Research and Innovation), and the TUM Venture Lab Additive Manufacturing and co-organized by Shenzhen People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Four experts and industry representatives from Shenzhen and Munich were invited to discuss the topic “Business Opportunities in Advanced Manufacturing Industry in Shenzhen & Munich.” The event attracted more than 50 participants from overseas universities and international organizations and industries. More than 2,700 people watched and participated online.

SIGS Associate Dean Zuo Jian’e opened the event with welcoming remarks. He introduced the background of the more than 30 years of cooperation between Tsinghua University and the Technical University of Munich. He also shared about the history of cooperation between Tsinghua SIGS and the Technical University of Munich since 2021. Associate Dean Zuo also expressed his wish for this event to further the platform of cooperation between SIGS and the Technical University of Munich and to contribute to the promotion of exchange and cooperation between industries in both cities.
After, Professor Peter Mayr, academic director of the TUM Venture Lab Additive Manufacturing and head of the TUM Department of Materials Engineering, offered opening remarks. He introduced TUM’s industrial-university-research ecosystem in the field of additive manufacturing and expressed his hope to work with more strategic partners from all over the world to promote the development of additive manufacturing.
After the opening remarks, speeches on the main topic began. He Xiangrong, CEO of the department of 3D printing of Shenzhen Sunshine Laser & Electronics Technology Co., Ltd., and Dr.-Ing. Sascha Schwarz, operations director at the TUM Venture Lab Additive Manufacturing, gave speeches as the industry representatives of their respective cities. He Xiangrong introduced the application of 3D printing technology of different materials and different processes in industrial scenarios through the lens of his own company’s situation. Dr.-Ing. Schwarz shared about the overall situation of the additive manufacturing industry and potential application areas through the lens of his laboratory’s service experiences and industry research. He also introduced his laboratory’s overall situation, service ecosystem, and future development goals.
Representatives from emerging companies in the field, Benedikt Hartmann, co-founder of Reparto, and Wang Shaoyang, an engineer at the Shenzhen Huayang Laser Technology Co., Ltd., spoke next. Benedikt Hartmann’s speech was entitled, “REPARTO: Enabling Shenzhen-Speed manufacturing for everyone, with decentralized additive manufacturing. He reflected on his 2019 visit to the Huaqiangbei Market in Shenzhen and his team's experience participating in Huawei competitions in 2022. He also introduced his company and its vision for development. Wang Shaoyang spoke on the application of additive manufacturing in the field of new energy vehicles from the perspective of his company.
After the event, speakers answered questions about the application and development of additive manufacturing in different industries. Speakers and participants from both cities had a lively discussion.
This event was co-organized by Tsinghua i-Space, the innovation and entrepreneurship platform of SIGS, and relevant departments at TUM. In the future, Tsinghua i-Space will strengthen cooperation with international innovation and entrepreneurship platforms such as the TUM Office for Research and Innovation and TUM Venture Labs.
