The 10th International Forum on Graphene in Shenzhen (IFGSZ) was successfully held from April 13 to 16. The forum was combined with the 4th International Conference on Energy Storage Materials (ICEnSM).
At the forum, over two hundred world-renowned scientists and industry figures in the field of graphene and energy storage materials delivered speeches. More than 1,000 representatives from more than 200 higher education and scientific research institutions and more than 100 companies attended the event. Attendees came from countries and regions including China, US, UK, France, Germany, Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Australia.
Gao Hong, executive dean of Tsinghua SIGS, and Zhong Hai, deputy director of the Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, attended the forum and delivered opening addresses. Academician Cheng Hui-Ming, chairman of the conference, hosted the opening ceremony.

In her address to the forum, Executive Dean Gao Hong emphasized Tsinghua SIGS’s commitment to the research of global major challenges and major technological problems as well as the cultivation of outstanding engineering and technological innovation talents to meet the industrial needs of Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area. She further expressed that the school continuously works to deepen the integration of research, teaching, and industry and align with Shenzhen’s strategy of developing 20 globally competitive strategic emerging industrial clusters and fostering eight future industries.

In his remarks, Zhong Hai stated that new materials occupy a fundamental and strategic position in the modern industrial system and are a key area of high-tech competition. He expressed that in recent years, the global electrochemical energy storage industry is in an explosive period, and advanced energy storage materials are the core and foundation for realizing new energy commercialization and developing new energy technologies. He emphasized that Guangdong and Shenzhen are at the forefront of development and innovation in related fields.

Konstantin Novoselov, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics and a professor at the National University of Singapore, was invited to attend the forum and delivered a plenary lecture entitled “Materials for the Future.” Professor Li Dan from the University of Melbourne, Professor Luo Jianping from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Professor Feng Xinliang from the Technische Universität Dresden also delivered plenary lectures.

After the plenary lectures, a round tabledialogue session Future Graphene and Energy Storage Materials Industry was held. Tsinghua SIGS Associate Dean Kang Feiyu chairman of the meeting moderated the round table session.

On April 15, 2019 Chemistry Nobel Laureate Yoshino Akira, a professor at the Japanese Institute of Advanced Industrial Technology Global Zero Emissions Research Center, delivered a EnSM awardee lecture called "Brief History and Future of Lithium-ion Battery." Wang Chaoyang, a fellow at the National Academy of Inventors (US) and professor at the Pennsylvania State University, Pan Feng, professor at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, and Xia Yongyao, professor at Fudan University also delivered plenary lectures.

On the afternoon of April 15, the 2020-2022 EnSM Awarding Ceremony was held. Kang Feiyu and Elsevier Editor Wang Jia presented awards to more than 20 winners. The Excellent Poster Awarding Ceremony was also held. Cheng Hui-Ming and Kang Feiyu issued certificates to the 15 excellent poster winners from IFGSZ and ICEnSM.
Site of the sub-forums
On April 16, nine sub-forums were held on topics including "Preparation of graphene and 2D materials," "Device applications for graphene and 2D materials," "Other applications for graphene and 2D materials," "Industrial development of graphene and energy storage materials," "Alkali metal batteries," "Li-S batteries, metal-air batteries and flow batteries," "Aqueous batteries and supercapacitors," "New concepts and new device," and "Battery recycling and utilization."
IFGSZ and ICEnSM were hosted by Shenzhen Science Technology and Innovation Commission and the People's Government of Nanshan District. They were organized by Tsinghua SIGS, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Technology for Carbon Neutrality, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Shenzhen Geim Graphene Center.
