On the morning of October 18th, the 73rd “TopTalk" with the theme of "Triboelectric Nanogenerator for High-entropy Energy and Systems" was successfully held in the lecture hall of the Information Building at Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS). Professor Zhonglin Wang, the founder of the field of nanoenergy research, was the keynote speaker for this event, and SIGS Associate Professor Wenbo Ding was the host. The event was organized by the Graduate Student Association of Tsinghua University, guided by the Data and Information Research Institute of SIGS, and co-organized by the SIGS Graduate Student Association, attracting more than 200 teachers and students from SIGS.
At the event, Professor Zhonglin Wang gave a keynote speech on the development of modern electricity, including the discovery of triboelectrification, electricity, and magnetism and their wide application, as well as the discovery of Maxwell's equations. Referring to Maxwell's prediction of electromagnetic waves and the later experimental confirmation, he pointed out that scientific exploration and curiosity play a key role in promoting scientific and technological progress.
Professor Zhonglin Wang introduced in detail the working principle of the friction nanogenerator (TENG) and its wide application in the field of energy conversion, and explored in depth the phenomenon of double electric layers between liquid and solid interfaces. At the same time, he also explained how to consider the influence of rotor rotation on electromagnetic radiation and power systems in electric power engineering, especially in the case of the change of electromagnetic field with the speed of object motion under the relativistic effect. In addition, Professor Zhonglin Wang also analyzed the influence of the TENG array design on the output performance, emphasizing the importance of close integration of theoretical research and experimental verification.
In the dialogue and exchange session, Professor Zhonglin Wang shared his years of experience in the field of industrial development and academic research, stressing the importance of in-depth research. For the students who asked questions, he explained the advantages of semiconductor materials compared to ordinary materials and shared the unique properties of semiconductor materials in electronic and optoelectronic applications. He also encouraged students to be curious and exploratory in their research to drive technological progress and achieve innovative goals.
At the end of the event, Professor Bilu Liu, Associate Dean of SIGS presented a certificate to Professor Zhonglin Wang.
Professor Zhonglin Wang is a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an academician of the European Academy of Sciences, a foreign academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and an academician of the National Academy of Inventors in the United States. As an authoritative expert in the field of nanomaterials science, Professor Wang is mainly engaged in theoretical and applied research of nanomaterials science, including synthesis, characterization, growth mechanism, and application of zinc oxide nanomaterials; controlled growth, characterization, and application of nanomaterials; nano energy technology and self-driven nano system technology; piezoelectric electronics and piezoelectric optoelectronics.
