Program Overview

The Universiti of Malaya (UM), located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the oldest and highest-ranked comprehensive research university in Malaysia, renowned for its strengths in arts, sciences, and medicine. As a key member of the Association of Asian Universities Alliance (AUA), the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), the '21st Century Maritime Silk Road' University Alliance, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), UM enjoys a distinguished international academic reputation.

The Tsinghua-UM Dual Master’s Degree Program in Environmental Engineering aims to cultivate high-level environmental professionals with global competence, solid disciplinary foundations, and engineering practical capabilities. Leveraging the complementary strengths of Tsinghua and UM in environmental studies, the program employs a joint training model integrating coursework, professional practice, and thesis research. This equips students with expanded global perspectives, reinforced expertise, and enhanced problem-solving abilities to address regional and global environmental challenges.

The two to three-year program requires students to spend at least one academic year at each partner university, with partial credit transfer arrangements. Upon completing all requirements, graduates will receive a Master of Resource and Environmental Engineering (full-time professional degree) from Tsinghua University and a Master of Safety, Health, and Environmental Engineering from the Universiti of Malaya.

Program Features

1. Interdisciplinary Education

Students will study at two top Asian universities under the guidance of distinguished experts across multiple disciplines. The curriculum integrates environmental science, engineering technology, ecological conservation, and other fields to foster interdisciplinary thinking and comprehensive problem-solving capabilities. Through this approach, students gain cutting-edge environmental engineering knowledge and become adaptable professionals ready for evolving global demands.

2. Practical Experience

The program emphasizes theory-practice integration. Students engage in environmental projects, applying theoretical knowledge to hands-on scenarios. This practical exposure builds critical experience, enhances problem-solving skills, and strengthens employability for future career success.

3. Cultural Exchange

Shenzhen and Kuala Lumpur, dynamic modern metropolises, offer unique cultural heritages and diverse social environments. Students will immerse themselves in local cultures, participate in traditional festivals and activities, and interact with faculty and peers from diverse backgrounds. This enriches their life experiences, cultivates cross-cultural communication skills, and prepares them to thrive in global collaboration.

Faculty Team

The program assembles high-caliber faculty from both universities. The supervisory teams feature scholars with extensive overseas study/work experience and profound research/teaching expertise in environmental engineering. Industry experts from relevant fields also serve as external mentors, contributing to curriculum design, professional practice guidance, and career development support.
