A commemorative academic forum for the 20th anniversary of the Tsinghua University-Kyoto University Cooperative Research and Education Center for Environmental Technology (CRECET) was held at Kyoto University Yoshida Campus. Co-organized by Kyoto University and Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), the forum celebrated CRECET's achievements while exploring future directions for Sino-Japanese collaboration in environmental science and technology.
At the opening ceremony, Academician Hao Jiming from Tsinghua University's School of Environment and Executive Vice-President Tetsuo Sawaragi of Kyoto University exchanged commemorative gifts. Hao Jiming reflected on the enduring partnership dating back to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol signing and CRECET's evolution into a robust cooperation platform. He emphasized that the center embodies the shared commitment of both universities, contributing significantly to technological breakthroughs and the development of global environmental field.
Professor Masaki Takaoka of Kyoto University then reviewed two decades of CRECET milestones and innovative joint achievements. Professor Zuo Jian'e, Vice Dean of Tsinghua SIGS, shared the experience of leveraging CRECET to internationalize education and cultivate talent.
Throughout the symposium, scholars from Tsinghua SIGS and Kyoto University exchanged insights on cutting-edge environmental research such as dual-carbon technologies and climate-change responses.
The event showcased CRECET's 20-year legacy and set a new starting line. Both sides pledged to deepen research and education cooperation and to pool their expertise to address global challenges including climate change and water-resource crises.
