Program Overview

This professional master's program relies on the interdisciplinary advantages of SIGS, guided by the integration of industry and education, and closely follows the training requirements for professional degree categories. It aims to cultivate high-level, application-oriented talents who possess a solid foundation in engineering and technology, systematic professional knowledge and practical expertise, as well as strong practical and innovative capabilities, professional competence, and an international perspective. These talents will be capable of creatively engaging in engineering practice, technological research and development, and management services in sustainable engineering, renewable energy technologies, and related fields, thereby providing robust talent support for the high-quality development of the industry and the implementation of national strategies. Upon fulfilling all degree requirements, students will be awarded a professional master's degree in Materials and Chemical Engineering (Code: 0856) by Tsinghua University.

This program is a full-time program with a standard duration of two years. It features four key characteristics:

1. A deepened interdisciplinary course system that emphasizes the integration of sustainable engineering and renewable energy technologies, balances theory and practice, and incorporates numerous practice-oriented modules into the course design;

2. A focus on engineering practice and technology transfer, closely integrating theoretical learning with innovative practice, and encouraging students to conduct scientific research on industrial application projects within enterprises;

3. The faculty comprises a well-balanced mix of instructors in terms of age and academic rank, drawing from both the Institute of Materials Research and the Institute of Environment and Ecology. This has formed a high-level academic team with a clear disciplinary focus, distinctive characteristics, a balanced structure, and interdisciplinary complementarity;

4. Through an interdisciplinary, international, and open innovation talent development model, the program cultivates international, multidisciplinary innovators with an exceptional global perspective, cross-disciplinary thinking, a drive for innovation, teamwork skills, and an entrepreneurial spirit, as well as a high degree of cultural insight and social responsibility.

Student Voices

I choose the Institute of Materials Researchbecause of its strengths in computational anddata-driven materials research, advancedfacilities for materials characterization, and itsclose engagement with new energy and high-techcompanies in the Greater Bay Area like BYD, Huawei, and DJI. The institute's emphasis onintegrating artificial intelligence with materialsscience and energy technologies closely alignswith my research focus on data-driven modelingfor materials discovery.
