Program Introduction
The degree granting site for Materials Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University was first established in 1981, and was approved as a first level discipline authorizing doctoral and master’s degrees in 1998. As a key developed discipline at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Materials Science and Engineering closely aligns with industrial economy and social development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. It constitutes an important component of Tsinghua University’s main Materials Science and Engineering discipline, which is rated A+ nationwide and ranks among the world’s top 10 according to QS, ESI and other international rankings. When evaluated independently, the materials discipline at the Shenzhen International Graduate School has reached the top 2‰ in ESI global rankings.
Training Characteristics
1. Supervisor led responsibility system is implemented. For doctoral students receiving interdisciplinary training, associate supervisors from relevant disciplines will be appointed to provide supplementary supervision. Under the guidance of supervisors and advisory panels, doctoral students complete coursework, conduct scientific research, participate in academic exchanges, and deliver innovative research outputs.
2. Key training components: Qualifying Examination, Thesis Proposal & Research Plan, Social Practice, Academic Events & Academic Presentations, Annual Thesis Assessment & Mid term Review, Final Academic Report. All studies are completed in Shenzhen.
Program Duration
Standard study duration: 3-4 years for Regular Doctoral Students candidates (maximum 6 years); 4-5 years for direct entry doctoral candidates (maximum 7 years).
