With excitement in the air, new student arrival began at 8 am on the morning of August 23rd at SIGS.

“No matter where you are, the culture of Shenzhen is a part of you,” said Nael Hailemariam, a SIGS alum from Ethiopia who completed OPEN FIESTA’s Internet+Innovation Design program in 2021. Nael is the co-founder and CEO of Chapa Financial Technologies S.C. His experiences at SIGS and in Shenzhen have shaped his success as an entrepreneur.

In anticipation of new student arrival, a newly-built dormitory building in the eastern part of University Town has opened.

The 2022 IEEE East Asian School of Information Theory (IEEE EASIT 2022) took place from August 2nd to 5th at the Shenzhen Institute for Talents Development. The four-day summer school brought together 107 graduate students from across East Asia; fifty-one participated offline. During the program, students attended eight tutorials delivered by expert scientists across different fields including information theory and machine learning.

In 2017, Ruomei's efforts paid off and she was admitted to the Tsinghua University School of Medicine. She joined Prof. Sun Shuqing's research group and started her academic journey at Tsinghua SIGS.

The 2022 International Forum on Graphene in Shenzhen was held from July 8th to 10th. Since 2014, the forum has brought together globally renowned experts from academia and industry for academic exchange, policy discussions, standard formulation, exhibition of technology achievements, and industry collaboration.
