Yi Zhongkai still vividly remembers the day he arrived in Shenzhen in the summer of 2018: “I exited Shenzhen North Station and it was drizzling.” Zhongkai felt nervous leaving his family and coming to a new city. When he got to his dorm, he saw a message from his advisor, “Are you in Shenzhen?” His advisor’s thoughtfulness gave him a sense of comfort as he began his new journey at Tsinghua SIGS.

During his time at Tsinghua SIGS, Yuanxiong joined Prof. Ma Shaohua's lab. His research in organoid and stem cell engineering equipment research and development involved cross-disciplinary research in the fields of machinery, medicine, information science, and control.

The Tsinghua SIGS Commencement Ceremony 2022 was held on the morning of June 26th. This year, 949 students are graduating from Tsinghua SIGS, including 51 doctoral students and 898 master’s students.

Kong Deqiang has spent seven years at Tsinghua SIGS. During his time here, he not only achieved academic success, including the publication of four papers and application for two patents, but also excelled in marathon running.

The 2nd TUM-Tsinghua SIGS Online Research Workshop, jointly hosted by Tsinghua SIGS and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), was held online from May 30th to June 1st, 2022, Beijing time. Yang Bin, vice president and provost of Tsinghua University, Juliane Winkelmann, senior vice president of TUM, and Zhang Chuanjie, associate dean of Tsinghua SIGS, attended the event.

The opening ceremony for the Community of Life: Biodiversity Through the Lens Photo Exhibition took place on June 7th at the International Talent Communication Center in Nanshan District.

The 2022 Spring Semester Professional Development and Presentation Guest Speaker Series took place from February 23rd to March 30th. The series included 12 guest speakers and is part of an online course taught by Professor Xiangming Li. The class is made up of students fromChina, Mongolia, Brazil, the United States, and Uzbekistan.

Recently, Assistant Professor Chaopeng HONG from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS) and collaborators published a research article, assessing land-use emissions embodied in international trade between 2004 and 2017, through use of a comprehensive accounting of land-use emissions and a multiregional input-output model.

The results of the 2022 40th Cycle World Architecture Community Awards were announced online on April 21st. Students Chester Goh, Shukwan Tung and Yuhan Hong from the SIGS Institute of Future Human Habitats won for their project Super-Hydro-City! in the Student Award category.

Associate Professor Vijay K. Pandey from the Institute of Biopharmaceutical and Health Engineering (iBHE) has been teaching hybrid classes since 2020. Although he isn’t teaching any classes this semester, his research on cancer biology and its clinical applications in the Oncotherapeutics Lab continues.

Yang LI's team from Tsinghua SIGS recently conducted a study on volunteer activity data to find out how to better incorporate self-organized volunteer actions in creating communities resilient to the pandemic and other social crises.
