Zhidong Jia is a Research Professor and PhD Supervisor at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University. His research focuses on high-voltage engineering, insulating materials, and hazard prevention and mitigation technologies for electrical equipment. He also serves as Director of the Shenzhen Engineering Laboratory of Power Equipment Reliability in Complicated Coastal Environments.
To date, he has supervised 11 PhD students and 57 master’s students. He has served as Principal Investigator for six projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and has participated in three national research programs, including the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) and the National Science and Technology Support Program. He holds 55 granted invention patents and has published more than 200 academic papers.
Professor Jia serves as the Chinese Member of CIGRE Working Body B2.44, Vice Chair of SAC/TC 8, the National Technical Committee on Environmental Conditions and Environmental Testing for Electrical and Electronic Products, and Vice Chair of the Professional Committee on Environmental Technology for Electrical Products, China Electrotechnical Society. He has also undertaken and participated in the development of multiple international standards, including those of CIGRE and IEEE.
For his contributions to the protection of electrical equipment against environmental hazards, he has received three Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Progress Awards, two Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Science and Technology Progress Awards, one Sichuan Province Science and Technology Progress Award, two China Electric Power Science and Technology Progress Awards, one Guangdong Patent Award, and one Science and Technology Progress Award of China Machinery Industry.

1. External Insulation of Power Systems: research on pollution flashover prevention for high-voltage external insulation, microbial protection of composite insulators, and anti-icing mechanisms, including the development and application of anti-pollution flashover insulating coatings and anti-icing coatings, as well as condition assessment and fault diagnosis of power cables;

Internal Insulation of Power Systems: research on the vibration characteristics and damage mechanisms of large generator stator bars, and on partial discharge in transformers, including the development of diagnostic equipment for stator insulation, as well as partial discharge and vibration detection for GIS terminals.
