今年,1200多名研究生新生加入到清华大学深圳国际研究生院这个大家庭。让我们来一睹萌新们的风采吧!
Priscila Gonzalez:My name is Priscila Gonzalez (希莉娅) and I come from Mexico City but I’ve been calling China home for two years now. I am going to start my master’s degree in Logistics Engineering, I majored in Chemical Engineering in college but all my professional experience is related to Industrial Engineering.
I chose SIGS mainly because of the prestige Tsinghua University has, not only in China, but in the world, also because of the nature of the program, I am very interested in working with companies and gather a lot of knowledge in and out of the classroom. I chose Shenzhen because I think the city is a very vibrant, innovative and modern place. When I arrived here and saw the city center I felt like I travelled to 2029! I’ve personally seen how fast cities develop in China but Shenzhen impressed me so much, I came here to visit two years ago and right now it’s so much different, with its rapid growth, I think Shenzhen is the place to be. So far, I am very impressed with the campus, I’ve been meeting a lot of interesting people and I’m excited to begin this semester.
刘哲: Since my immigration to Sydney Australia, I always define myself as ‘a 不是太香蕉的香蕉人‘, if that makes any sense ). I kept my Chinese root when I was integrating into the Aussie culture. I always wanted to come back for a solid period of time for exploring my heritage. I did a Commerce/Computer Science dual degree in University of New South Wales and worked in different types of cooperation as a back-end developer. I’ve been to many beautiful places and met various cultures. However, this time, Shenzhen might be one of my final destinations, I love the vivid vibe in the city, the endless opportunities for people with a tech-background, not to mention the food delivery system(It should be the best invention of the past 10 years).
Tsinghua SIGS was my only application because my mom told me ‘Tsinghua for the engineers’ ( I am not joking ). But this was assured to be the correct choice after I met all the volunteers, staff, faculty members and all the other international students !
My ultimate goal is to become a true ‘Tsinghuaer’ who is capable to live and contribute to this amazing city after 2 years.
Sebastian Beetschen:I grew up on the countryside near Bern, the capital city of Switzerland. This is a part of the Swiss-German speaking language section of Switzerland. I’m perusing a master’s in data science and Information Technology at TBSI.
The reason why I chose Tsinghua SIGS has three components. First, I grew up in the Western world, so my understanding of China, of the way of working and thinking of China is quite poor. I want to be able to better understand the China and discover the, for me, foreign part of the world. Second, Tsinghua is the best technical university in China, which is the reason why I had a closer look at all the possibilities that Tsinghua offers. Third reason why I chose Tsinghua SIGS is because Shenzhen has a unique technical environment, with so many developments going on so quickly. That is for me a very interesting place to be.
My first impression of Tsinghua SIGS is that it is very well organized and that the people here tend to start events on time (and this is not often a Swiss person says that!). I cannot say that much of my impressions yet, since I have not seen much of Shenzhen yet. What I can say is that the climate is quite hot and humid for European people and that I like that the city of Shenzhen is very green, with many plants between the roads or houses.
