Dr. Mustafa K. Taher Al-Nuaimi is an Assistant Professor at Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, where he serves as a Master’s and PhD supervisor. He is a Senior Member of IEEE，also a Senior Memberof the ChinaInstitute of Communications (CIC). His research interests focus on emerging wireless communication technologies, including 5G/B5G/6G wireless networks, metamaterials, intelligent metasurfaces, broadband antennas, 3D-printed antennas, 5G/6G base station antenna systems, RF and microwave circuits, and other advanced technologies for future wireless systems.Dr. Al-Nuaimi has published more than 100 SCI/EI-indexed journal and conference papers as first or corresponding author. His research impact is reflected by more than 2847 Google Scholar citations and an H-index of 25.
Dr. Al-Nuaimi received his PhD degree in Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technology from Southeast University, Nanjing, China in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Wei Hong(院士). During his doctoral studies, he was awarded the IEEE Best Student Paper Award twice and received the full Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) from the China Scholarship Council.
From 2016 to 2020, he conducted postdoctoral research at Southeast University and Shenzhen University, where he worked on RF and microwave engineering, metamaterials, metasurfaces, and advanced antenna technologies for 5G/6G communication systems. In 2020, he joined Purple Mountain Laboratories, Nanjing, as Senior Researcher, focusing on frontier research in wireless communication and electromagnetic technologies.
In 2022, Dr. Al-Nuaimi was awarded the Newton International Fellowship by the Royal Society, UK, one of the most competitive international research fellowships with an acceptance rate below 10%. The fellowship, with funding support of approximately RMB 1.45 million, enabled collaborative research with Loughborough University, UK, on transparent intelligent metasurface technologies. In the same year, he led a research project funded by the State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves at Southeast University, focusing on metasurface technologies for future 6G systems. From 2025 to 2035, he will continue to receive long-term support from the Royal Society (GBP 6,000 annually) to promote international research collaboration with UK institutions.
Dr. Al-Nuaimi has been recognized as a Category A High-Level Foreign Talent Program recipient in Nanjing (2022) and Foshan (2025). He is also a registered expert in several professional databases, including the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Expert Database, the Foshan Science and Technology Expert Database, and the Ministry of Science and Technology Funding Review Expert Database.
He is proficient in Chinese (普通话), English, and Arabic, with advanced capabilities in Chinese speaking, listening, reading, and writing. His Chinese language ability has supported his long-term academic activities, teaching, and research collaboration in China.
